Johann Peter (WEHMEIER)1 WEHMEYER was born Mar 01, 1790 in Itzum, Niedersachsen, Germany, and died Sep 02, 1867 in Hildesheim, Hannover, Germany. He married Elisabeth Maria SCHRADER Nov 22, 1814 in Gross Giesen, Hannover, Germany. She was born Abt. 1794 in Germany. Notes for Johann Peter (WEHMEIER) WEHMEYER: From Hildesheim, Germany - also known as Peter Johann Sep 7, 2007 - A message from Anne Marie with great news about Franz and Christina. Here is her message: Franz Walter Konrad Wehmeyer is brother to my great-great-grandmother Clara Dorothea Wehmeyer who immigrated to Texas in 1858 and married Fredrich August Glaeser in San Antonio on 29 May 1858. Clara and Franz are children of Johann Peter Wehmeyer and Elisabeth Schrader of Hildesheim. There were eight children in the family that I have found: Joannes Josef Christoph Heinrich, Marie Magdalena Gertrud, Joannes Bernhard Friedrich Wilhelm, Franz Walter Konrad, Heinrich, Clara Dorothea, Marianna Elisabeth and Anna Sophia Carolina. Peter was born in Izum and is descended from the Itzum Wehmeyers. Franz married Johanna Christina Hasse in Hildesheim on 30 Oct 1851 at St. Godehard Catholic Church in Hildesheim. Itzum is a city in the region of Niedersachsen, Germany. It is also known as Itzum, Lower Saxony, Germany. Found that Itzum is in the district of Hildeshiem. Itzum is not very far from Hildesheim. I was doing some online research and found that some of the Wehmeyer's who live in the northern part of the US were Jewish. There may be some truth to the story that my Wehmeyer ancestors were Jewish. The people with the name spelled Wehrmeyer were from Westfalen, Germany. There are some US Wehrmeyer's. There were also people in Westfalen with the name spelled Wehmeyer. There are people in Germany whose name was spelled Weermeyer and Wehrmeier. Some being from Nordhorn, Niedersachsen, Germany. Someone in my family told me once that the last name would have been pronounced as Vehmeyer. There are people using this spelling. Notes for Elisabeth Maria SCHRADER: I found a family tree at rootsweb where they were born in Itzum. No gender of these persons either. Listed as Franz Wedemeier in the Kirchen Buch. pg 53; pg 63; For more than 1,000 years Hildesheim has been the cultural centre of the region between the Harz Mountains, the Lüneburg Heath and the Weser and Elbe rivers . Hildesheim is a city near Hanover, Germany. A medieval Jewish community existed in the early 1300’s. At its peak in 1900, the Jewish population was about 600. At the start of the war, there were about 200 Jews still in the town. Those who did not emigrate were deported with the exception of twelve Jews protected by being married to non-Jews. Prior to 1945, the town was pretty much destroyed at the end of World War II. The city of Hildesheim is located in northwestern Germany, in lower Saxony at the base of the Harz Mountains, near Hannover. Hildesheim was founded by Emperor Louis the Pious. I have tried researching the Wehmeyer name in Germany (various name spellings). I haven't had any luck locating any ancestry on him. I understand he came to america to escape conscription into the military or possibly it was a religious thing. Conscription is America's form of the draft. It may also mean forced labor. I have read that when looking at the census, many times there are relatives living nearby. My search is for anyone possibly related to Christina Hasse. I doubt that Franz came over with any other family members on the same ship. I have found nothing to show anyone was related to him in Texas. It may be the original spelling was Wehrmeyer. Research from others as far back as 1650 found the name spelled Wehrmeyer. When Wehrmeyers/Wehmeyer's were leaving Germany, they did not just come to the US. This is where Franz' parents got married. Franz was Catholic and this is why he is buried in a Catholic Cemetery. Citizenship: Nov 22, 1869, Gillespie Co., TX Notes for Johanna Christina HASSE: Christine was 27 when she left Germany to come to America (per ship records). She and possibly a child is buried among piles of rocks on the family land. I believe the Johanna Hasse age 58 in the 1860 Gillespie Co., TX census is the mother of Johanna Christina Hasse. She is living with Rasmus Frantzen. It is already known that the Johanna married to Erasmus Frantzen is not a Hasse. More About Franz WEHMEYER and Johanna HASSE: Marriage: Oct 30, 1851, Hildesheim, Germany Notes for Julianne "Juliana" WEIHMANN: When Franz died, Julianna went to the Catholic Church hoping to get help. She was left with at least 4 or 5 children. The church told her to sell some of their land. This caused Julianna to join the Luthern Church. Found living with son Robert 1900 Gillespie Co., TX age 69 Lower South Grape Creek School and Community Center In 1871, Luckenbach trustees voted to buy 1-1/3 acres on the west bank of South Grape Creek from Juliane Wehmeyer for $50. Until 1871, the Lower South Grape Creek School District had been part of the Luckenbach School District. Luckenbach Precinct #3 covered Luckenbach, Grapetown, South Grape Creek, and Grape Hill until 1889. Some of the early settlers listed in the precinct's history included Peter Burg, Eramus Frantzen, L.F. Toepperwein, Friedrich Scharnhorst, J.M. Hunter, John Blank, G.J. Weber, Ferdinand Gellermann and William Feller. These families lived along South Grape Creek between Luckenbach and the Pedernales River to the north. The first schoolhouse, built by the community, was a log cabin. Theodor Huelsemann was the teacher between 1875 and 1880. On May 12, 1889, the school on South Grape Creek was named Lower South Grape Creek School, District #21. It was so named because the Grapetown School had, at one time, been named Upper South Grape Creek School. The need for a better, more accessible school arose, so in 1900, the trustees sold the original land and bought an acre of land from Charles and Martha Ahrens for $5. This site was located less than a mile and a half north, along Grape Creek and next to the Austin Highway. The new, cut limestone block, single room schoolhouse was completed in 1901. It had a tin roof, with a bell tower on the east end, and a chimney on the west end. In later years, a large porch with concrete slab was added. Through the years, the finer things in life were added, including electricity, a new well and pump, drinking fountains on the porch and new modern restrooms that replaced the old outhouses. The last year classes were held in this little country schoolhouse was 1960. Due to low enrollment, the trustees voted to consolidate with the Fredericksburg School District. School closing plays were performed on the large porch. In earlier years, they had been held across the river on the Kusenberger place on a wooden platform built for the stage. Later, they had been held at Weinheimer's Hall and at Luckenbach Hall. The first community club was organized in 1960. It includes third and fourth generations of former students and neighbors. The members meet every fourth Thursday to play "42" and have refreshments. The restored building is used for weddings, reunions, meetings, and other community activities. A man named Chaca was supposed to have been the first person to build a house and cultivate a cornfield at the site and may have been responsible for the name, which in Spanish means "green roasting ear of corn. A group of mostly immigrants came in the mid 1800's to the northwestern area of what is now Bexar County, to establish a better life for themselves and a better future for their descendants. These settlers gradually formed into a community which included farms and ranches, a stage coach stop, post office, store, school, cemetery and church. The Biering family was very prominent in the founding membership of Zion Lutheran Church of Helotes. Tried many spelling variations to locate Hermann and family in the 1900 census and cannot locate.
