Notes for James Henry PATTERSON:

My genealogy data was provided from my cousin Frances Jones Johnson, who lives in the Dallas area. She did extensive research many years ago.

Between the time James and his wife got married in 1838 and before their first child was born (1839), they moved from TN to AR. James would have been about 19 years old.

Was a rancher and farmer in AR until the Civil War. After the war, he moved his 1st wife and their children to Waco, McLennan Co., TX arriving 7-4-1865. In Waco, he opened a boarding house and dabbled in local politics. He was very successful in his business adventures and was quite wealthy when he died.

Served in the Civil War 1861-1865. He joined the Army in Arkansas. He has a CSA marker at his gravesite in the Greenwood Cemetary in East Waco (historic cemetary). Other Patterson family members are buried here. I understand this cemetary is located in a bad section of town. Have seen a few pictures of the surroundings.

Van Buren Co., AR - He was part of a group from many AR counties for the Ordinance of Secession of AR on May 6, 1861.

There are no Patterson's on the 1840 Crawford Co., AR census. So James Henry must have lived in a different county. He had to be in AR because one of his children was born in AR before 1840.

He was a physician. He attended Eclectic MD Institute in the fall of 1888, Cincinnati, OH. He attended school in St. Louis, MO. I (Diann Tooley) located their burial sites in 2001. They have really nice headstones which were purchased by their daughter, Ella Gertrude Jones. She also paid for perpetual care of their plots in the 1970's. She and her daughter and son-n-law, Lila and Archie Wehmeyer, visited Stockdale, TX. They located what used to be the office of Dr. Jones. There in the window (what was a pharmacy) were old medicine bottles that once belonged to Dr. Jones.

STOCKDALE, TEXAS. Stockdale is at the junction of U.S. Highway 87 and State highways 97 and 123, thirteen miles northeast of Floresville in eastern Wilson County. The town was named for Fletcher S. Stockdale,qv lieutenant governor when the town was established in 1863. A post office was established in 1871.

Stockdale Cemetary was established in 1848.

He was a dedicated and devoted husband and father. He provided a stable and secure lifestyle for his family. He loved putting together family gatherings. He was a great cook. He was always "there" when people needed him. He was easy to talk to and a very wise man.

Served in WWII, the Korean War and still in the military during the Vietnam War. He was a dedicated military man. He spent little over 20 yrs. in the Army.

Before his death, he owned Archie's Mobile Home Services. He was a carpenter, plumber, painter, electrician, mechanic and all around fix-it man. This man never slowed down and was very active.

His death was sudden. His high blood pressure was controlled by medications. One month prior to his death, his usual doctor retired and the new doctor took him off all his meds. He had been treated at Wilford Hall Medical Center in (USAF) San Antonio, TX
