Also, family rumor has it Thelma and William Meyer lived together for 25 yrs before they got married. Thelma may have also given birth to twin boys and adopted them out. GALAN: Died of Brain clot. He was a fireman. Rumor has it that he was unable to father children. The name "Galan" in spanish means "Handsome". Galan researcher's have found that Galan's go back to Golan Heights in the Middle East. About the time that the persecutions started the Golan tribe went to Spain and mingled with the Spaniards. In an effort for them to blend with the peoples and not be found they changed the O to A. Hence becoming Galan instead of Golan. From there they spread all over the world. She has all this documented and authenticated. So that is what I know of the origin of the Galan name. "Galan" name was originally "Golan" during the 13th century. They were originally from Israel, but the Muslim persecutions drove them into Spain to the Zaragosa, Aragon area. Over time they converted to Christianity and immigrated to Mexico. If you look at your Bible, Golan was a town of asylum, and the descendants Israeli's were descended from Jacob's son Joseph. A penpal from Spain also verified that the Galan name was an old name in Zaragosa. There is also a small town in France just north of Spain named Galan, probably from Galan Jews that did not convert and were forced into France.
