Thank you Fran Nichols for the cemetery photos 4-1-2007.  The land that the cemetery is on has been in her family for about 100 years.  The Crudup Cemetery is located next to P. M. Carver Cemetery (fenced) in Mount Juliet, Wilson Co., TN.  The only headstone that is clearly marked is the white one (seen in first two photos).  It is a Jenkins child.  The other headstones are illegible.  Fran says she is not related to the Crudups but does have documentation to prove this is a Crudup Cemetery.

Crudup Family Tree

This cemetery is not fenced, as you can see.  There is a man by the name of Owen Gleaves, who is the brother of Fran Nichols, who is going to  put up a fence.  The family is asking for donations to help with the expense.  Email me for the address to send your donation.

PLEASE Help

It is likely that John Crudup born 1809 and his wife Mary Elizabeth Graves Crudup are buried in this cemetery along with other family members.

Fran Nichols said a cousin showed her the graves of a Jack Crudup his wife and two of their children that are all buried in the same row in this cemetery.  John C. Crudup born 1809 who owned land in Wilson Co., TN was also known as Jack.  I do not have a death location in my database.

John C. Crudup born 1809 sold his land but nothing is mentioned that he moved away from Wilson Co., TN.  Not sure why he sold his land.  Maybe he had other land.  This land was his inheritance from his father John Crudup born 1770.

It is believed that John (born 1770) is also buried in this cemetery.  John (born 1770) died in Wilson Co., TN.  Since his wife, Rebecca Temple remarried after John's death, she may be buried elsewhere.  It would be great to learn what other Crudup's are buried here.

Owen Gleaves sent me an email about his intentions with fencing the cemetery.  I am pasting it here because I want everyone to know how sincere and honest he is.  Please donate.

Hello Diann

This is encouraging news about donations. For years I looked over the fence of our cemetery at the Crudup Cemetery and thought of how sad it is that a Cemetery gets in such a mess. Generations move on and the graves are just kind of forgotten. It happens in every family. It was grown up so bad that you could not even get into it to look around. My Uncle on my Mothers side use to take care of the Carver Cemetery as he owned the P.M. Carver farm and after he died in 1988 we (Gleaves) kind of took over as there was no one else with the interest. The Carver Cemetery was kept mowed but the fence and around the Cemetery was slowly being taken over by brush and trees and poison ivy including the Crudup Cemetery. The fence was old and rusting away. The fence around the Crudup Cemetery had fallen down and all but one of the old cedar post had rotted and fell many years ago. You can still see the one post in the pictures Frances sent. It is in the front left corner looking from the front. We had always been told that this was a Crudup Cemetery but some in the area tried to say different. We were not sure that it was a Crudup Cemetery until my Aunt died in 2004 and a letter was found that my Grandmother wrote setting up the  Carver Cemetery. I will be happy to forward you a copy if you would like to have. It is dated the year I was born 1939 and written November 22nd. She states that the Carver Cemetery is located beside the old Crudup Cemetery.

A contractor that put up a farm fence on the P.M. Carver property had put the fence right across the Jenkins grave. I discussed it with the new owner and was able to get his permission without causing a stink to move the fence which I did this spring. I had found the base of the head stone and foot stone buried underneath the growth while cleaning up. I might mention that this owner Mr. Odell Smith donated the property for the enlargement of our Cemetery on the back side and on the south side. His deceased wife was a Carver I believe. The Crudup Cemetery is on the North side.

Frances may have told you that we now have a trust fund set up through the IRS (501(c)3 non-profit called the (P.M. Carver Fuqua Gleaves Cemetery Trust Corporation).
We have a President (yours truly) a secretary/treasure (my wife Linda) and a eight member board of directors (counting myself).

In the last several years we have done a lot of work getting the Carver Cemetery the way we want it including enlarging. Linda and I personally have spent several thousand dollars and put in many many hours of work. We have a first cousin that has shared the expense with me. She is a real jewel.

In the back of my mind I had plans of fencing the Crudup Cemetery as soon as I could. I looked into having it done but the cost was $1400.00 just for a plain galvanized chain link fence which I turned down. I am getting older and no longer have the get up and go that I once did. However,
I have a quote for the material which is a four foot black chain link fence and will go good with our black picket fence. Capitol Wholesale Fence in Nashville gave me a real good price because of my intentions and the material cost is $444.00. This does not include concrete for the post.

Frances had told me that she had been in contact with you and I ask her to check and see if you might be willing to help a little with the expenses. I am ready to purchase the material and probably will in the next month or so before Capitol Fences increases prices or changes their mind on the price. I would like to get it done before winter but it may have to wait until spring. At least I will have the material to get started as soon as time permits.

Frances and I will be glad to keep you posted as to the progress. I will also keep you posted with receipts for material. I will also send you a copy of the materials quote. Any donation received will be very much appreciated by your truly be it large or small. The labor is free.

There are a couple of Crudup families here in Mt. Juliet. I contacted them by mail but got no response at all.

Happy to get acquainted with you.
