Notes for Frederick William LOTZ:

In Chambers Co., TX 1900 living as a boarder in the house of Lizzie Wilson (he was age 32)

In TX in 1910 per census (he was age 42)

Fort Anahuac was the scene of incidents in 1832 and 1835 that preceded the Texas Revolution qv (see also ANAHUAC DISTURBANCES). Although the town flourished briefly prior to the 1832 battle, the population declined dramatically afterward. A long-running civil dispute between Gen. Thomas Jefferson Chambers and Charles Willcox qqv over ownership of the townsite began in 1838 and was not fully resolved until after the assassination of Chambers in 1865.

An article written by Kevin Ladd about the Kansas connection to Chambers Co., TX:

Another businessman to settle here by way of Kansas was a young fellow by the name of Frederick William Lotz, who arrived soon after the turn of the century. Although his parents were immigrants from Germany, Fred Lotz took easily to life in Saline County (Kansas) and came here with a good head for business and a little extra capital to start with. In October 1909, Lotz joined in with H. H. Jackson and other stockholders to organize an ice plant company at Anahuac. The group quickly entered into a contract with a Pennsylvania company and built the town's first ice plant near the wharf area, with the entrance to the plant fronting on Main Street. Two years later, Lotz, along with his partner, George Willcox, opened the Anahuac Saw and Planing Mill, a small but profitable mill operation that began in June 1911 with fifteen employees. Lotz also took on several major construction projects of a public works nature. The largest of these was a wooden bulkhead across Turtle Bay. The $125,000 bulkhead, authorized by voters in 1912, took a couple of years to build. Lotz had barely completed the job before it was destroyed bu the 1915 hurricane. The storm also wrecked his sawmill and personal property. The Progress reported: "The heaviest individual loser at Anahuac is F. W. Lotz, estimated at $10,000. In the warehouse, which floated away like an ark, were his automobile, some household furniture and lumber." Lotz eventually rebuilt his sawmill and in 1917 won the contract to build a new bulkhead across the bay. He was drowned in early 1918, only days after the project got underway. Fred Lotz was married in 1904 to Miss Tassie Willcox, a daughter of Albert G. V and Georgia Ann (Chapman) Willcox.
