This is where I save things from the past

July 24, 1922 to October 24, 2007

Henrietta "Hank" Lamae Butterworth White passed away in Bandera, TX and was buried on October 30, 2007 in San Antonio, TX at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery with her husband who died in 1976.  Mrs. White moved to Bandera about 1983.  She was a singer with local bands there and active in her church.  Mrs. White learned she had cancer on Aug. 24, 2007.  The cancer took her life very quickly.  She lived a full life.  She joins her husband James Thomas White and a daughter Sally Elaine White in heaven along with our Lord.  She leaves behind two sons, James Michael White and Thomas Clay White and a daughter Eva Jo Jennings.  Her long time friend and companion, James "Jim" McClellan cared for her the last few months of her life, never leaving her side.  Mrs. White was my sister Jenelle's mother-n-law for over 40 years

August 10, 2007

My son-n-law was involved in a roll over accident in Baytown, TX.  An elderly woman in an SUV was speeding, ran a red light and hit his Dodge Ram 2500 in the passenger side. His truck flew through the air, landed upside down skidding into a light pole, knocking it down.  He crawled out a window and other than suffering from shock, was able to walk away with minor scrapes and bruising.  Miraculously the elderly lady walked away as well.  He purchased this truck about a month ago.

Mike knew he was going to get hit.  He leaned back in the seat and held on to the steering wheel.  This may have saved his life.

I am providing this space for my friend Amanda Cole May.  Here is the story:

Hi, I am writing everyone to let you know something that is dear to me... I have been following the harbor development in Aransas Pass at Conn Brown Harbor (Texas). They (the development co) that is developing it is going to tear down the Memorial Tower that has my Dad and others name on it. (those of you who are not familiar with the tower its called "The Seamans Memorial", it has the names of men who died at sea on it. There are a lot of Good People who are writing in to protest the whole harbor project. Please go to http://www.aransaspassprogress.com and get information on it. The letters to the editors is a great place to get the scoop.   ANYWAY I was thinking.... (bIt ad huh) if we could some how organize a protest about the whole matter. I  have never done anything in my whole life like this before. But nothing has hit me this hard. Conn Brown Harbor is my roots, that is what I am about, its where I am from and what I hold dear. The harbor does need to be developed... But not just given to some developer that is going to take what they want and tear down the rest. There is a lot of money to be made by developing the harbor. But the City of Aransas Pass deserves to make the money and put it in to the great place I call home.  I would like to somehow organize a protest... I call it "Hands Around The Harbor". we can all meet at the harbor (I am checking into permits, media etc.) hold hands and let those people (developers) know that there are People who cares about Conn Brown Harbor and Aransas Pass. I really believe if enough people hear about this there will be no problem making it around the harbor. My Family and I are talking about going where my Daddy's boat was always parked to hold hands, wearing matching t-shirts to show who we are and who we represent. With in memory of Ed Cole on the backs.

Be proud of our heritage

I am writing on behalf of the Seamen's Memorial Tower down on Conn Brown Harbor.

My great-grandfather Seth Cole came to Aransas Pass in 1898. He helped build the town and at one time, we were kin to more than half of Aransas Pass and very proud of it. Seth had five sons and one daughter, and at one time all his sons were fishermen, along with his daughter's husband. These sons had children and the boys all had their turn serving in the fishing industry.

Does the town of Aransas Pass remember what built the town? Do they remember what kept the town afloat? Do they remember the proud name they carried for many years, the “Shrimp Capital of the World”?

The tower was a honor, a proud symbol of what we are and will always be, no matter what price tag you put on that land.

Did you know that someone offered to buy the Alamo at one time from the City of San Antonio? They did. Check into it But San Antonio stood up and said “no, we are proud of our heritage and we will stand beside it.”

That is what Aransas Pass needs to do and I will be there to say, be proud and keep your roots, grow in new ways but don't cut your roots off. You will never be as beautiful as you could be. There is plenty of land on the harbor to just build around that little corner. Add flowers and be proud. I am.

- Amanda Cole May - (Letter to the editor, Aransas Pass Progress May 24, 2006)

In Memory of David Barnes

David Barnes was a man I used to work for and with at Orion Construction and I wanted to recognize him because he touched many people who knew him.  My daughter works for the same company, and was his secretary. David passed away in May 2006 and will be missed.

The family of David Barnes has requested that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the David E. Barnes Sr. Memorial Scholarship Fund.  This scholarship fund is being set up for David’s grandchildren.  You may send your donation to Mainland Bank, P.O. Box 3057, Texas City, TX 77592.  Donations should be designated for Acct. 6332050 and ABA# 113102073

Donald "Duke" Smith

Duke is someone I used to work with at Orion Construction and I just learned today (May 17, 2006) that he had a heart attack and survived surgery.  His health is in bad shape.  During surgery it was discovered he had an aneurysm of the Aorta.  It has also been determined he had a major stroke on the right side of his brain and several small strokes on the left side of his brain.  Duke is on life support and I am awaiting more information about his condition.  Duke has a great sense of humor and I ask that we all pray for his health and well being.  I really enjoyed working with him.

UPDATE:  Duke passed away on May 24, 2006,  His funeral will be on Sat. May 27.  Please join me in prayer for his family.  Duke was in his early to mid 40's.

Preston "DeeDee" Boston

I worked with Preston a few years ago at Orion Construction.  He was my boss and is a friend.  He is the Safety Manager for Orion.  He has been with the company for a very long time.  On Sun. Oct. 15, he suffered a stroke.  He is currently hospitalized at Herman Hosp. in Houston, TX.  He has had several more strokes while in the hospital and is not expected to live.  Preston is 51.  I enjoyed very much working under his supervision and I can truly consider him a friend.  He has a great sense of humor and pleasant to know.  He really cared about me as I care about him.  The last time I saw him was at the funeral of David Barnes, who also worked for Orion Construction.  We hugged as friends would do.   I did not see him inside the funeral chapel but he made sure to come find me in the parking lot before we all joined the procession to the cemetery where David Barnes would rest in peace.  I have prayed for Preston's recovery and his family and I am very upset about his condition.  God apparently has greater plans for Preston.  I will post more about Preston when I know more.   10-17-06

On 10-18-06, DeeDee passed away at Hermann Hospital, Houston, Texas.  His funeral is at Mount Olive Baptist Church in Dayton, Texas.  See photo and funeral program below.

I went to the church for visitation and met DeeDee's family.  He has 10 grandchildren with one on the way that will not know his/her grandfather.  One particular grandson was really upset at the loss of his grandfather.  This family has been through so much, just as any family who loses a loved one.  He will be missed by so many people.

Congratulations to David and Laranda Wehmeyer

They are the proud parents of a baby son, Dailyn Scott born May 24, 2006.  Born: 2:27 p.m. 7lbs. 12 oz. and 19 & 1/2 inches long.  David is my nephew (my late brother's son).

Thank you to my sister, Jenelle for being there, watching out after my well being when our parents had to work when I was a youngster.  Thank you for your love and inspiration.  I have endless love and respect for you.  It is tough being the oldest of siblings and having such great responsibility for your younger siblings.  Even into my adult life, you  have continued to be someone very special in my life, even if I don't always show it.   You are such a loving and caring person and anyone who has ever had the pleasure of knowing you has truly been blessed.
