Grand Children

My name is Diann.  I live in Houston, TX.  I am married (nearly 26 years), have three children and 6 blood  grandchildren and 3 step grand children.  My parents were Archie and Lila (Gibbons) Wehmeyer.  I have 2 sisters and had a brother who is now deceased.

I was born in Augusta, GA while my father was serving at Fort Gordon.  Right before I turned 2, my family boarded a ship from New York on the USS Butner.  My older sister said it took about 7 days to get to Germany.  From what I researched, we probably arrived in Bremerhaven.  We then took a train to Paris, France.  While on the ship, I celebrated my 2nd birthday.  I attended a French kindergarten and by the time it was time to come back to the US, I spoke French fluently (I was 5).  My family lived in Kingsville, TX where my father taught ROTC at Texas A & I College.  I believe this college has been renamed.  In 1965, my father retired from the Army and we moved to San Antonio, TX where both my parents grew up.  In 1972 I got married and this union ended in 1982.  I remarried in 1983 and am still with this man.

I began genealogy research in 1999.  I had very little information to start with and began researching how to gather information as well as visited many online genealogy links to see what it was all about.  I started with WebTV.

I began contacting all my family and asked for information.  My parents as well as their siblings had passed away so my job was very difficult.  I was surprised how much I could gather and then began searching all available online genealogy resources.  Then I learned I had available to me a great genealogy library here in Houston and went there to do research.  I was amazed how much information I was able to gather.  I had some really tough times on some of the family research and found genealogy message boards a great place to knock down those brick walls.

Genealogy also prompted my family to start having family reunions.  Many of us live all over the US and we were like strangers.  As kids, our family had reunions and we were close but as adults we all seemed to go our separate ways.  What a loss as my family has so much to offer and are quite pleasant to know.   So many of us look forward to our reunions.

My names database in my genealogy program contains about 18,000 people and growing.  I am not a professional researcher but have the knowledge to help others in their research.  My research for others is voluntary.

Some family have no interest in genealogy, who their ancestors are or who they may be related to.  I respect this.  There are some surnames and lines I am unable to research because the names are very common and I have very little information to research.

I make every effort to exclude names and information about living individuals to respect these people's privacy.  Sometimes I miss something and it gets in the family trees online.  If anyone finds anything on this website they would prefer not to be here, I encourage them to contact me for removal.

Genealogy is very popular.  More people are researching and sharing with us online.  Some people have spent a lot of time and money performing their research.  There are some who probably will never share with us because of this.  Others do not take the time and money into consideration and share their great work.  I chose to share by creating my own web site and I research for others. I do not guarantee I will find anything.  I have a lot of fun and genealogy is therapy for me.

I enjoy my pets.  I work on crafts, mainly creating photo and scrapbook album covers of all kinds.  I like scary stuff and like to visit haunted places and would like to stay in a haunted hotel one day.  I keep fairly busy most of the time.  It is just me and my husband as my children are grown with children of their own.  I like watching home improvement shows which has helped me with crafts and decorating my house

I am available to do research in and around the Harris Co., TX area.  I have access to the Clayton Genealogy Library in Houston, TX.  I also have connections to researchers who are involved in local cemeteries in Harris Co., TX.
